Kilpatrick Delivers In 3-2 Win For Cyclones

FAIRBORN, Ohio - Jimmy Kilpatrick scored a goal for the sixth game in a row and the Cincinnati Cyclones picked up their seventh win in the last eight games with a 3-2 win at Dayton on Friday night. The win moves the Cyclones into third place in the North Division standings. Kilpatrick had a goal and two assists to pace the offense.

The Cyclones opened the scoring 3:37 into the first period when rookie Mark Van Guilder fired home his 13th goal of the season from a tight angle near the left corner goal line. Jimmy Kilpatrick and J.T. Wyman handed out the assists on the score. It was the 31st time Cincinnati has scored the first goal of the hockey game in 44 chances. The shots in the period favored Dayton, 12-3.

In the second period, the Cyclones scored another two goals to push the lead to 3-0. Jimmy Kilpatrick's 20th goal of the season came from the slot as he took a feed from the left corner from Van Guilder with Ben Gordon handing out the other assist. Cincinnati's Mike Salekin finished a two-on-one break at 12:09 for his sixth goal of the season. Kilpatrick went streaking up the right wing side and slid the puck cross ice to Salekin on the left wing side to extend the lead. The shots on goal again favored Dayton, 10-8.

Dayton scored both goals of the third period as Tomas Zaborsky scored his ninth at 54 seconds and Dan Riedel netted his 17th at 8:08. Cincinnati killed more than three and a half minutes of shorthanded time late in the period to hold onto the victory. The shots again favored the Bombers, 13-6, in the final frame. For the game Dayton outshot Cincinnati, 25-17.

Loic Lacasse picked up his third win of the season, stopping 33 shots. Paul Drew absorbed the loss, turning away 14 shots.

Prior to the game, the Cyclones had defenseman T.J. McElroy recalled by the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League. Cincinnati played the game with 15 skaters, one fewer than the league limit.
