Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs defeated the Mississippi Sea Wolves on Saturday night by a score of 5-2 behind a Petr Pohl hat trick, and a two-goal effort from Jarrett Konkle.

The Chiefs are now 25-16-2 and sit two points behind Wheeling for first in the North Division.

Commanding the first period of play, the Chiefs marched out and buried two goals. Both strikes came from the stick of Petr Pohl with the first at even strength 3:49 into the game, and the second on the power play at 10:51. Later in the first, Alex Parent tipped a shot past Mayotte to put the Wolves on the board at 17:10.

An early goal from Jason Tejchma gave Mississippi some life in the second period but that was quickly erased when Pohl finished the hat trick with a laser of a one-time on a Chiefs 5-on-3 power play. It was his 18th of the season. Konkle padded the Chiefs' lead back to two when he snuck a backhand goal by Munce while being taken down by the defense.

Protecting the net early in the third Mayotte thrilled the crowd with a desperation toe save on Parents' chance in close. As the defense stood strong, the Chiefs offence struck again at 5:54. Konkle's 23rd of the season extended their lead as he buried the beautifully assisted goal from Ryan Del Monte & Bartlett as they charged down the ice.

Mayotte turned in an impressive 28-save performance for his 17th win of the season while the Chiefs' power play looked strong as it went 2-for-6.

Mark your calendars, the Chiefs are back on home ice on Saturday, January 31 and will be hosting the Reading Royals at 7:05. The game will feature the Chiefs' Pink In The Rink Night.
