Utah Grizzlies News Release

Phoenix, Arizona - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that goaltender Dan Turple has been assigned to the team by the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers.

Turple is expected to arrive in Phoenix late this afternoon and will be in uniform tonight when the Grizzlies visit the RoadRunners at 7:05 p.m. The transaction continues the logjam of Utah players arriving at Phoenix' Sky Harbor International Airport today with James Sixsmith arriving from Bridgeport earlier to join the team tonight as well.

In 13 games with the AHL's Chicago Wolves this year, the six-foot-six Turple was 5-8 with a 2.94 goals-against-average and a .897 save percentage. He has an ECHL record of 33-25-6 with the Gwinnett Gladiators whom he played for during the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons.

Turple was a sixth-round draft pick of the Thrashers in 2004. The 24-year-old allowed two goals or less in six of his 13 starts in Chicago this year.

Utah goaltender Mike Mole has started 36 of the team's 40 games this year, including 27-straight starts from October 25-January 2 and nine-straight starts currently. Turple is the second goaltender to join Utah this year by way of the Chicago Wolves. Robert Gherson went 2-0 with Utah from January 3-6.

Former Grizzlies Head Coach Jason Christie is an Assistant Coach in Chicago and Wolves General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff was the Grizzlies Assistant Coach/Assistant General Manager from 1995-1997.

Utah returns home Wednesday, Friday and Saturday to host Phoenix with all three games starting at 7:05 p.m.
