Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Orlando, FL - G Patrick Killeen stopped 31 of 32 shots to lead the Solar Bears to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Cincinnati Cyclones in front of 9,329 fans at the Amway Center on Sunday afternoon.
Less than five minutes into the game, the Cyclones struck for their first goal. F Matt Smyth fired a puck from the right wall and F Mike Embach redirected the shot past Killeen to put Cincinnati ahead at 4:48 of the frame. The Solar Bears struck back with a power play goal 4:02 later. F Nick McParland banked a puck off the boards to D Michael Wilson, who skated into the slot and wristed the puck into the back of the cage for the 1-1 score. The two sides ended the period with one goal apiece.
The Solar Bears grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second stanza. C Ryan Cruthers left the puck in the high slot for D Derick Martin, and Martin fired a shot off the crossbar and into the net at 7:33 of the period. Killeen turned aside all 12 shots he faced in the frame to help the Solar Bears hold the 2-1 lead going into the third.
