Evansville IceMen News Release
RUNDOWN/LOWDOWN: The IceMen completed their second to last week of the 2012-13 ECHL regular season schedule with a record of 3(0-3-0), producing only 3-GF while surrendering 11-GA. Essentially operating with a remnant of a roster for the balance of this season, the IceMen embark on the final week of their inaugural ECHL campaign set to finish in fifth place in the North Division and 14th position in the overall Eastern Conference alliance. Through 69-games, the IceMen have compiled a record of 69(23-40-6) totaling 52-points. Having completed their 36-game regular season home schedule, the IceMen approach the season's last week confronting three road games in four nights to conclude their 72-game slate. Evansville commences its last voyage of the season Wednesday night in Kalamazoo for the second installment of a two-game home-and-home series against its North Division rivals, the Wings. Then on Friday and Saturday nights, the IceMen will be hosted by North Division titlist Cincinnati in a two-game, season-culminating series.
THE ACTION ATTRACTION!: For the second consecutive weekend, the IceMen continue to be the toast of the town in Evansville and the Tri-State region. This past weekend in a two-game homestand to climax their home schedule, the magnificently magnetic IceMen attracted 15,290 fans. On Friday night, with the world-renown Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders performing and entertaining, the IceMen excited and thrilled a leather-lunged legion of 6,575. In the home finale on Saturday night, the IceMen fond following of faithful fans grew even larger as a thunderous throng of 8,715 exhorted and exulted their hometown team in appreciation of another extraordinary season of electrifying pro hockey excitement and entertainment in 2012-13. It was just one weekend earlier when the beloved "Men of the Igloo" attracted 14,300 fans for a preceding two-game weekend homestand. In their final four home dates, the IceMen saw nearly 30,000 fans come through the turnstiles for a per game average of an amazing 7,500. In the process, despite being the fifth smallest market in the 23-team ECHL, the IceMen have catapulted to a lofty #5 status in league wide attendance. Evansville completes the home schedule with a per game average of 5,415, representing a solid increase of over 500-fans per game from last season at the Ford Center.
"ICEMEN LIVE PRESENTED BY COORS LIGHT": It's yet another fun-filled, entertaining Monday night edition of "IceMen Live Presented by Coors Light," live from Evansville's Show-Me's East. The weekly two-hour IceMen radio show and its host, Terry Ficorelli, will have defenseman Chris Markiewicz and right wing Adam Pleskach as the special guests. The ever-popular IceMen Monday night radio show is presented from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm live on the IceMen radio flagship home of "Magic 98.5 FM" and 1400 AM WEOA as well as world-wide on the internet at magic985fm.com and 1400amweoa.com.
WRAP THE RECAP: For the second to last week of the season, the IceMen posted a 3(0-3-0) mark, being outscored, 11-3. Continuing to operate with a rather makeshift, improvised lineup, the IceMen launched the week's activities with a 3-0 shutout setback at Toledo. It marked the fifth time this season and the second time in Toledo that the IceMen have been blanked. Goaltender James Reid did earn the game's #2 Star with a dynamic 40-saves performance. In dropping their last 4-decisions at the Huntington Center, Evansville was outgoaled, 18-2. Returning home for their last two Ford Center home appearances for this season, the "Icers," despite another strong and stellar effort, were trimmed by Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference kingpin, Reading, 3-1. Daniel Tetrault averted a second consecutive IceMen zeroing when he made connection slightly past the midway of the third period. Defensively, the IceMen were kinetic and combative, limiting the Royals high-voltage, high-tech attack to only 24-SOG and a mere 14-SOG over the final two stanzas. Saturday night, in their home finale, the IceMen fell prey to Kalamazoo's 4-goal resurgence which wiped out an early Evansville 1-0 advantage in overcoming the home team, 5-2. Both IceMen marksmen were defensemen as Daniel Tetrault caged the game's FG and Austin Madaisky delivered his first full frontal assault since his recent return to the lineup following a lengthy layoff due to injury. Once again, in defeat, the undermanned IceMen were gallant and valiant, peppering and pelting a plethora of pucks to the tune of a season single game-high of 48-SOG against the K-Wings,
CHECKERED RECORD REVIEW: With one week remaining in their first-ever season as an ECHL member club, the IceMen have compiled an overall record of 69(23-40-9) totaling 52-points. Evansville's latest losing spell has reached 4-in a row with its last triumph occurring back on March 16th at the Ford Center in the form of a 4-2 victory verdict over Kalamazoo. That is the IceMen lone win in the last 11-starts, mirroring their first 11-outings of 14 for the final month of the season in March; last 11(1-9-1). The IceMen longest losing streak of the season has been 5-consecutively. The IceMen record in the second half of the season is: 33(11-19-3). The longest win streak of the season has been 3-in succession which has been accomplished on two separate occasions. Evansville's longest unsullied skein of the season has been 6(4-0-2) and 4(3-0-1). The longest winless span has been 7(0-6-1), mirroring their initial 7-games of the current campaign; second longest; 6(0-5-1). The monthly ledger: October 7(0-6-1); November 14(6-8-0); December 13(5-6-2); January 12(5-6-1); February 12(6-5-1); March 11(1-9-1).
HOMEFRONT FRENZY: Despite dropping a pair of encounters the past weekend at their home of the fabulous Ford Center, downtown Evansville, the IceMen were combative and competed kinetically in front of frenetic loud, proud crowds. The Coach Kromm contingent completes its home slate with a mark of 36(15-20-1), finishing 7(3-3-1) in its last 7-home endeavors. The second half home record: 16(7-8-1); last 5(1-3-1). The longest home win streaks of the season were 4-in a row and 3-in succession. The longest losing spell at home was 5-consecutively, paralleling their initial 5-home dates of the season.
THREE FOR THE ROAD: The IceMen will conclude their 72-game regular season docket with a triumvirate of foreign ice warfare affairs this week. Evansville will seeking to scotch and scuttle the stigma of a 6-game losing streak abroad with its last success on foreign ice dating back to last month and the weekend of February 22nd and February 23rd when, in stunning fashion, they swept a two-game series at reigning league champion Florida by results of 5-4 (OTSO) and 5-3. The IceMen are currently in the throes of their longest losing spell away from home bay this season. Their road record overall for the season stands at 33(8-20-5); second half road record; 17(4-11-2). Evansville has been outscored during this current losing streak, 35-14.
THE DIVISION CONDITION: In the latter portion of the season, the IceMen have found their own North Division foes becoming a more maddening conundrum, eviscerating their throes and their woes. The IceMen have fallen in 8 of their last 9-divisional duels, lowering their intra-divisional log to 43(16-23-4). For the remainder of their competition comprising the Eastern Conference, the IceMen have assembled a mark of 13(3-9-1) against the Atlantic Division and 13(4-8-1) against the South Division delegation nation.
AND THE WINNER IS: As has become a rich tradition for the IceMen organization, the home finale featured the "Third Annual Awards Night." The IceMen Award Winners: MR. HUSTLE AWARD: JASON DALE; BEST DEFENSEMAN: DANIEL TETRAULT; COMMUNITY SERVICE: AARON GENS; MOST POPULAR PLAYER: MARK CODY; ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: AARON GENS; THREE STARS AWARD: JOSH BEAULIEU; SCORING CHAMPION: JOSH BEAULIEU; MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: JOSH BEAULIEU; PLAYERS' PLAYER AWARD: DANIEL TETRAULT.
THE CAPTAIN CONNECTIN': Newly-named IceMen team captain Daniel Tetrault has emerged in recent action as his team's major scoring weapon. The past week, the veteran defenseman connected on 2 of his team's 3-goals while delivering 12-SOG for his week's workload. In Friday night's 3-1 setback inflicted by Reading, the 13-year pro averted his team's second consecutive shutout for the week, being heralded the game's #2 Star. In the home finale the following evening, he streamlined the game' FG in an ultimate 5-2 defeat incurred against Kalamazoo, being named the #3 Star in that contest. Having surged majestically to #2 in ECHL defensemen scoring with 68(14-24-38) and #2 in the loop in rearguard goal cannoneering, Tetrault has engineered 6-goals and 8-points over the last 6-games. Tetrault is the IceMen nomination for ECHL Player of the Week.
NO "R AND R" FOR J.R.: Evansville's goaltender James Reid is making up for some significant lost time in his first two seasons as pro. Mostly in an inactive state of affairs prior to his acquisition by the IceMen, the former WHL Spokane standout has now made nine straight starts for his new team. This past week, the Calgary, Alberta native faced exactly 100-shots in three outings, repelling 90 of those offerings while posting a 3.39 GAA and .900 SPCT. Though his team bowed in Toledo last Wednesday night in a 3-0 whitewashing, Reid was hailed as the game's #2 Star with a masterful 40-saves performance. Reid is the IceMen nomination for ECHL Goaltender of the Week.
SHORTHAND BAND BACK ON TRACK: After a brief deviation if not outright aberration, the IceMen penalty-killing contingent is back on track with full vigilance. The shorthand band has nullified 7-consecutive man advantages afforded the adversaries and 16 of the last 18 for an efficiency rating of a superlative 88.9%. Meanwhile, contrasting the effectiveness of the penalty-killing cast has been the ineffectiveness of the team's power play power plant. The power play is 0 for the last 11 and 5 for the last 39 for a proficiency mark of 12.8%.
ICEMEN MARKSMEN: In his last 6-games, Daniel Tetrault is 6(6-2-8); last 35-games; 35(12-17-29). In his last 10-games, Dylan Clarke is 10(6-6-12); last 15-games; Jason Dale 15(4-9-13); last 15-games; Patrick Kennedy 15(3-9-12); last 5-games; Oliver Gabriel 5(2-3-5).
MILESTONES MARKERS: Defenseman Donnie Harris (96) is 4-games shy of pro career 100. Defenseman Matt Krug (89) is 11-points shy of pro career 100. Defenseman Daniel Tetrault (793) is 7-games away from pro career 800. This past week, Tetrault surpassed 450 career points; (128-324-452). Head Coach Rich Kromm (395) is 5-victories from 400- career coaching victories.
FEW FUN FAST FACTS FROM "FIC": The IceMen are 35(16-14-5) when scoring the game's FG. They are 25(13-10-2) when outshooting the opposition. Evansville is 23(13-6-4) when leading after the first period and 26(20-2-4) when leading entering the third period. When the IceMen score 4 or more, their record is 25(20-4-1). The IceMen record for November, December, January and February combined is 51(22-25-4); in October and March combined 18(1-15-2). The IceMen attained a winning record on home ice against their own North Division; 21(12-9-0). The IceMen have employed 56-players thus far this season.
