The Alaska Aces won their third straight Brabham Cup as regular season champions with a 2-1 win over the Colorado Eagles on Saturday night at the Budweiser Event Center in Loveland, Colorado. Alaska is now guaranteed to be the #1 seed in the Western Conference, and will open the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs against the eighth-seeded team. Alaska listed their record to 48-15-7 on the year for 103 points. Alaska will return to the Sullivan Arena to host Games 1 & 2 of the Opening Round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs on Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th. The Aces and Eagles opened the game with a scoreless first period, where Alaska outshot Colorado 11-5. 2:21 into the hockey game Aces forward Bobby Hughes was hooked from behind on a shorthanded breakaway and received a penalty shot. His attempt was stopped by the blocker of Adam Brown, marking the third time this year the Aces were stopped on a penalty shot.

Colorado struck first for the third time in as many games this week when Greg Gardner redirected a shot into the net at 4:19 for his first pro goal. Alaska immediately responded to tie the game and take a quick lead. Tim Hall scored his second goal of the week at 6:15, and 21 seconds later Chris Clackson scored from the slot for the go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner.

Gerald Coleman was terrific in the third period stopping 13 more Eagles shots, and the top-ranked Aces penalty killing unit held off a late chance for Colorado's number one ranked power play.

Gerald Coleman (23-6-2) made 30 saves on 31 shots in the win. Adam Brown (21-14-1) made 26 saves on 28 shots in the loss. The Aces went 0-1 on the power play and the Eagles were 0-4. Alaska was outshot by Colorado 31-28 in the game.

The Aces finish the season next weekend in Ontario before returning home to open the postseason. Alaska will host Games 1 & 2 of the Opening Round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs on Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th at Sullivan Arena.
