
Kalamazoo Shuts Out Trenton 5-0 to Close Out Home Stand

Kalamazoo, MI- Goaltender Riley Gill was frugal and the Kalamazoo Wings offensive was explosive as the K-Wings shutout the Trenton 5-0 on Celebration! Cinema Night and on the final Frugal Fan Friday of the season.
A fast-paced opening period resulted in plenty of scoring chances and two goals for the K-Wings. Creating a turnover behind the Devils net, Bryan Jurynec pushed the puck to Brian McGuirk, who found Aaron Clarke wide open just in front the net for his 19th goal of the season 17:18 into the period.
While Kalamazoo went 0-for-2 on the power-play in the first period, their penalty-kill unit did deliver some offense. With 24.6 seconds remaining in the period, Sam Ftorek's dump-in found its way to the stick of Trent Daavettila, who delivered his 27th goal of the season.
The second period ended with Kalamazoo in the driver's seat. 14:44 into the period, Kory Karlander knifed a rebound passed Trenton goaltender, Jeff Lerg. The goal for Karlander was his 31st on the season and added another point to his team high total, now at 73. Assisting on the goal was AJ Thelen and Jurynec, who with two assists through 40 minutes of play gave him his first multi-point performance since 12/26/09 in a two assist performance versus Wheeling.
Jurynec, who matched his point total for the season, now has four multi-point performance of his career. With the assist, Thelen extended is point streak to three games.
In the third period, Kalamazoo would tack on two more goals from Patrick Asselin (26th) and Darryl Lloyd (11th) to close out the game's scoring. The goal from Asselin extended his point streak to four games.
Gill earned his second shutout of the season and his first as a K-Wing stopping 32 shots to raise his record to 11-7-0-2.
Kalamazoo will travel to the WesBanco Arena on Sunday, March 20th for a 5:05 p.m. encounter against the Wheeling Nailers.
The K-Wings will return home this Wednesday, March 23rd for a special 10:30 a.m. face-off versus the Cincinnati Cyclones during the first of two Education Day Games presented by RxOptical, Bounceland, Edison Electric and Putter's Family Fun Center.
