Aces Skate Past Wranglers 4-1

Gerald Coleman held the opposition to a single goal for his fifth straight game, and the Alaska Aces erupted for a three-goal second period, as the Aces beat the Las Vegas Wranglers 4-1 from the Orleans Arena on Friday night. The Aces lead for first place in the Western Conference increased to eight points ahead of Las Vegas and Bakersfield. Alaska moved back into first place in the ECHL based on winning percentage. Alaska's record improved to 40-21-4 on the year. The Aces now continue their five-game road trip, with a rematch with Las Vegas on Saturday night. The teams played a mostly defensive period, and the game remained scoreless through first intermission. Alaska was outshot 9-5 in the period, but killed off four Las Vegas power plays in the frame.

The second period went from defensive to offensive for Alaska, as they blew open the game with a three-goal frame. First Brian Swanson took a nice feed from Scott Howes at 3:27 to open the scoring. Then, just over two minutes later, Howes turned from the set-up man into the goal scorer, collecting his own rebound on an Alaska power play at 5:30 to make it 2-0 Aces. Jerad Stewart increased the Aces advantage to 3-0 when he capped off a two-on-one rush from Scott Burt at 16:12 to complete the period scoring.

Las Vegas snapped Coleman's shutout bid at 13:16 when Aaron Power scored on a screened slapshot on a power play to get the Wranglers on the board. Alaska sealed the win with an empty-net goal from Dan Kissel at 18:44.

Gerald Coleman (25-14-1) suffered the loss, making 17 saves on 18 shots for the win. Michael Ouzas (17-14-2) suffered the loss, making 27 saves on 30 shots. The Aces power play went 1-6, while the Wranglers went 1-6. The Aces outshot the Wranglers 31-18 in the game.
