Idaho Steelheads News Release
(Boise, ID) - Head coach and director of hockey operations Hardy Sauter announced a trio of roster moves Friday morning prior to the Idaho Steelheads' road game at Stockton.
First, he announced that the team has agreed to Amateur Tryout Agreements (ATO) with rookie forward Kyle Reed and rookie goaltender Dusty Carlson. Both players come to the Steelheads from Ohio State University, where the Buckeyes recently concluded their season.
Carlson, 24, posted 21 wins in net for the Buckeyes in 2008-09 as a sophomore, the fourth-highest single-season win total in program history. His minutes played and save percentage were also among the best in a season at Ohio State.
As a freshman in 2007-08, Reed tied for second on the team with ten goals. He finished his college career with 22 tallies over four seasons. The 24-year-old has a family tie to Boise as well - his uncle, Gerald Bell, competed in track at Boise State, received his doctorate in Education and is currently the principal at Boise's Collister Elementary.
Both players are expected to make their professional debuts over the weekend with Idaho. The Steelheads are in Stockton for games Friday, Saturday, and Sunday against the Thunder.
Also, Sauter announced the team has released rookie defenseman John Kearns. Kearns had one assist in ten games with the Steelheads.
The Steelheads return home on March 23 to begin "Pink in the Rink" week at Qwest Arena. The Steelheads will host the Ontario Reign on March 23, 25, and 26, wearing specially-themed pink jerseys that will be auctioned off to raise money to help fight breast cancer.
