Jackals Sign Two out of College

The Elmira Jackals announced on Friday that they have signed forward Vinny Scarsella and defenseman Scott Wietecha to standard player contracts.

Scarsella comes to the Jackals out of Canisius (NCAA, D-I) in Buffalo. A native of Lackawanna, N.Y., Scarsella was second on the Golden Griffins with 14 goals, 21 assists, and 35 points in 2010-2011. He collected 40 goals and 93 assists in four seasons at Canisius for 133 points. His 93 assists are good for sixth all-time on the Golden Griffins, while his 133 points are 11th all-time.

Wietecha finished his eligibility at Ferris State (NCAA, D-I) this season and totaled 51 points (12g-39a) in his four years with the Bulldogs. The Wolverine Lake, Mich. native was named the CCHA Defenseman of the Week on Feb. 14. As a freshman, Wietecha led Ferris State at +16. Wietecha collected 36 points (12g-34a) and 152 penalty minutes in two seasons with Cedar Rapids (USHL).

The Jackals take on the Reading Royals at 7:05 p.m. tonight at the Sovereign Center.
