Trenton Devils News Release

Kalamazoo, MI - Behind 32 saves from Riley Gill and five different goal scorers, the Kalamazoo Wings defeated the Trenton Devils, 5-0, Friday at Wings Stadium.

As a result of winning for the eighth time in 11 games, the first-place Wings improved to 36-22-2-5, while the Devils had their four-game point streak snapped, dropping to 23-35-2-6.

For the Devils, the loss was just their third by way of shutout this season, and Jeff Lerg allowed five goals on 33 shots, while losing for the first time since being sent down by AHL-Albany last Friday.

Although the Wings' league-leading offense was held in check for most of the first period, they broke through with two goals in the final three minutes of the opening stanza to take a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. First, Aaron Clarke scored off a pass from Brian McGuirk following a Trenton turnover in the defensive zone, while Trent Daavettila scored the second goal, shorthanded, at the 19:35 mark.

In the second period, the Wings enhanced their lead to 3-0, when Kory Karlander scored his 31st goal of the season off a back-door feed from A.J. Thelen. With two points on the night, Karlander has 74 for the season, second most in the ECHL.

In the third period, the Wings got goals from Patrick Asselin and Darryl Lloyd to go ahead 5-0 and chase Jeff Lerg from the game. Lerg was relieved in goal by Alan Reynolds, who didn't allow a goal in 8:46 of action in his professional debut. Reynolds, from Princeton University, signed an amateur tryout contract earlier in the day.

Although the Devils managed to outshoot the Wings 12-7 in the third period, they weren't able to score and lost for the first time in regulation in their last five games.

The Devils look to get back in the win column when they continue their four-game road trip Saturday at Huntington Center against the Toledo Walleye at 7:00 p.m.
