Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Gwinnett, GA- Despite needing more than 60 minutes the Kalamazoo Wings extended their unbeaten streak (3-0-0-1) to four games with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators.

Last season the K-Wings posted seven shorthanded goals in 72 games. This year Kalamazoo entered Friday night with five shorthanded tallies and added to that total late in the opening period.

Stealing the puck in the neutral zone, Yanni Gourde (9th) earned his team-leading second shorthanded goal of the season by finishing off a two-on-one odd man rush with Justin Taylor. After receiving a pass from Taylor, Gourde kicked the puck to himself and stepped around the defense for the goal. The goal extended Gourde's point streak to four games.

With under a minute remaining in the first period, Taylor (3rd) extended the K-Wings lead to 2-0 by redirecting a David Pacan wrist shot. Taylor, who was held without a goal in his first 15 games of the season, has registered three goals in his last two contests.

Cutting the K-Wings lead in half in the second period, Mike Embach (4th)snuck around Kalamazoo's defense and lifted a backhander over a sprawled out Joel Martin 7:02 into the period.

Less than two later Kalamazoo regained its two-goal lead with a goal from the point from Mike Matczak (2nd). The goal from Matczak increased his point streak to four games.

Starting a comeback midway in the period, Kurtis Bartiff (8th) brought the Gladiators back to the single goal scoring on a breakaway.

Early in the third period, Embach (5th) forced overtime by striking on a five-on-three power-play to even the game at 3-3.

The K-Wings out-dueled the Gladiators 3-2 in the shootout receiving goals from Taylor, Yannick Veilleux and Eric Kattelus.
