South Carolina Stingrays News Release
Orlando, FL - Forward Andrew Cherniwchan recorded three points (2 goals, 1 assist) and goaltender David LeNeveu (31 saves) registered his second straight shutout to propel the South Carolina Stingrays (15-2-1-2) 3-0 over the Orlando Solar Bears (12-8-0-1) at the Amway Center Friday night. The win extends the team's winning streak to five games, point streak to six contests (5-0-0-1) and road record to 8-0-0-2.
Cherniwchan kicked off the scoring unassisted 56 seconds into the game picking up a loose puck in the right-wing corner and lifting a shot over the glove of Solar Bears goaltender John Curry (L, 26 saves on 29 shots) for his fifth tally of the season.
In the second period and with defenseman Steve Spinell in the penalty box for tripping, Cherniwchan caught an errant pass from Curry at the blue line and lifted a backhanded feed into an empty net for an unassisted shorthanded tally at 7:07. Forward Jack Downing completed the game scoring on the power play at 2:25 of the third period poking in a loose puck under Curry. Cherniwchan and forward Peter Boyd added assists. The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-4 on the man advantage while the Solar Bears went 0-for-4.
