TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After traveling more than 1,300 miles last week, the Cyclones are finally back home tonight as they host the Evansville IceMen. The Clones took the first two meetings of the 2013-14 season series, but their Hoosier State foes survived a wild 6-5 affair back on November 22. All-time, Cincinnati has accumulated a 10-5-0-1 record against the IceMen.
TONIGHT'S PROMOTION: PUCKS N PUPS / WIENER DOG RACES / $1 HOT DOGS - Fans can bring their four-legged friends to the game for just $2 in addition to a normal game ticket! Plus, the first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive a Cyclones Dog Bowl courtesy of Rumpke. And all fans can enjoy $1 John Morrell Hot Dogs!
SCOUTING THE ICEMEN: Jeff Pyle's club exploded for six goals in the final two periods last night, on their way a 7-3 victory over the floundering Toledo Walleye. With the win, Evansville leapfrogged Cincinnati to take a one-point division lead and pull into third place in the Eastern Conference race. Matt Lowry and Matt Schepke are tied with 14 points in 18 games. Former Cyclone Andre Bouvet-Morrissette has been hot of late as well, notching five points in his last two games - including a four-point showing last night. With goaltender Mike Clemente called up to the American Hockey League, Allen York and Garrett Bartus remain the IceMen duo between the pipes. This season, York is 1-1 with a 5.00 goals-against average. He was shelled in his only meeting with Cincinnati back on November 1, allowing 7 goals. Bartus, who dropped a shootout decision to the Cyclones, is 1-1-0-1 this year with a 2.22 GAA.
About Sunday Afternoon in Wheeling: Former Nailer Paul Crowder earned the game-winning goal in round five of the shootout to lift the Cyclones past the Nailers by a 3-2 final score in front of 1,481 at WesBanco Arena. It was the Cyclones sixth extra-session victory this season.
Masters at Scoring First: Cincinnati has found ways to set the tone early in games, striking the game's first goal on 11 occasions this year - the third most of any team in the ECHL. Their 9-2-0 record in such situations has garnered the second-most points of any team.
Bonus Hockey Beauties: With their shootout victory on Sunday in Wheeling, the Cyclones improved to 6-0 in games that stretch beyond 60 minutes - five of which have gone to a shootout. Cincy is one of just two teams in the ECHL to have an unblemished bonus hockey record. Their 12 OT/SO points are tied for the most in the ECHL.
Mr. November: Cyclones forward Barry Almeida capped off a strong month on Saturday night in Elmira. He finished with 10 points (7g, 3a) in 14 games, which led the team. After the strong November showing, Almeida is now second on the team in scoring.
