DULUTH, Ga. - Tonight at 7:05 p.m. the Gladiators (6-13-0-1) host the Kalamazoo Wings (8-6-0-2) in the first of three matchups between the two teams this season. This will be the lone meeting in Gwinnett, with two more games coming in Michigan in mid-January.
Scouting the Zoo:
- The K-Wings feature two equally talented young forwards who are steadily climbing up the scoring ranks of the ECHL in Yanni Gourde and Eric Kattelus. Gourde is in his second year in theleague after an abbreviated stint in 2012-13 with San Francisco, and is already making an impact, scoring 8 goals and 13 assists in 16 games (7th overall in points). For Kattelus, this is his fourth year in the ECHL, and is looking to have a career year, as he too has 7 goals, and is one assist behind Gourde with 12, also through 16 games.
Glads Notes:
Making Moves: The Gladiators made a couple of roster moves on Thursday, signing former Philadelphia Flyers forward David Laliberte and releasing forward Elgin Pearce. Laliberte, 27, logged 21 games with the Adirondack Phantoms (AHL) last season, along with five with the now-defunct Trenton Titans. He played in 11 games for the Flyers during the 2009-10 season, scoring two goals and adding an assist. Laliberte also picked up two penalty minutes in a playoff game for Philly that season.
Home for the Holidays: The Gladiators will wrap up a five-game home stand tonight against Kalamazoo, play one road game in Greenville on Sunday, and then start another stretch at home, this time for three games against South Division rivals South Carolina and Orlando. In the month of December, the Gladiators play seven of their 11 contests in front of their home crowd.
You Can Lean On These Guys: Since being recalled from Portland of the American Hockey League on November 21st, not only has goaltender Louis Domingue been stellar in net, but so has his teammate Peter Delmas. In Domingue's three starts in just over a week, the Mont St.-Hilaire native has stopped 114 of the 117 shots he's faced - an astronomical .974 save percentage and 1.00 goals against average - including a 40-save shutout on Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, Delmas has made 65 saves on 71 shots in the two games he's played, which is a .916 save percentage and a 3.00 GAA.
He Shoots...: Gladiators forward Evan Bloodoff is tied for 2nd in the ECHL going into today in shots with 71.
He Scores!: Gladiators rookie forward Kurtis Bartliff is tied for 5th among rookies with seven goals.
Killer Penalty Kill: Over their last 12 games, the Gladiators have held the opposition to 3-for-36 on the power play. On the season Gwinnett ranks 12th in the ECHL, killing off 85.7% of opposing power plays.
No Rest for the Weary: The South Division continues to be one of the best in the ECHL. The first 17 of the Gladiators games this season came against a division foe, with Gwinnett's opponents as of Monday sporting a combined record of 46-23-3-5.
Milestones: Forward Joey Haddad played in his 100th game as a Gladiator last Friday ... Goaltender Peter Delmas played in his 100th ECHL game on Sunday... Evan Bloodoff is three games away from his 75th as a Gladiator.
Snippets: The Gladiators are 6-2 when scoring three or more goals, and 0-11-0-1 when scoring two or fewer ... Gwinnett is 4-2 when scoring a power play goal, but 1-7-0-1 when allowing one ... The Gladiators are 5-0 Monday through Thursday this season, but 1-13-0-1 Fridaythrough Sunday.
