Orlando Solar Bears News Release

Orlando, FL - The Solar Bears could not solve South Carolina G David LeNeveu and surrendered a goal in each period as they fell 3-0 to the South Carolina Stingrays at the Amway Center on Friday night.

A goal in the first minute of the game gave the Stingrays and early lead. F Andrew Cherniwchan picked up a loose puck after a strange carom off the end boards and slipped a shot inside the right goal post to put South Carolina ahead 1-0. It was the lone goal of the first frame.

Cherniwchan added his second goal of the night at 7:07 of the second stanza. With Orlando on the power play, G John Curry came out from his net to play the puck but it bounced free to Cherniwchan who deposited it into the vacant net for the shorthanded goal. South Carolina held the 2-0 lead heading into the third period.

South Carolina added a power play goal 2:23 into the third period when F Jack Downing punched home a rebound after Curry deflected a cross ice pass from Cherniwchan to take a 3-0 lead. Orlando ended the contest with 31 shots on goal but could not solve G David LeNeveu who picked up the shutout win for the Stingrays.

Three Stars: 1. A. Cherniwchan (SC); 2. D. LeNeveu (SC); 3. J. Downing (SC)
