Jonathan Aro Added to SAL All-Star Game
June 14, 2014 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Greenville Drive right-hander Jonathan Aro has been added to the Southern Division roster for Tuesday's South Atlantic League All-Star Game in Hickory, the league announced on Saturday.
Aro has posted dominant numbers out of the Drive bullpen in 2014, going 1-0 with a 1.76 ERA and five saves in 17 appearances. In 41 innings, he has allowed just 21 hits and 13 walks while striking out 47 and holding opposing hitters to a .150 average.
He becomes the seventh member of the Drive headed to Hickory for the All-Star festivities, joining catcher Jake Romanski, infielders Carlos Asuaje and Jantzen Witte, and pitcher Joe Gunkel, along with Manager Darren Fenster and Pitching Coach Paul Abbott, who are serving on the Southern Division coaching staff.
In additional All-Star news, Witte will now start Tuesday's contest at first base after an injury to Charleston's Mike Ford. Witte, who was originally selected as a utility infielder, boasts a .335 average with 48 runs, 76 hits, 24 doubles, seven homers, 51 RBI and a .423 on-base percentage. He joins Romanski, the Southern Division's starting catcher, in the starting lineup.
The 55th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday night at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory, North Carolina, home of the Hickory Crawdads. First pitch for the contest is at 7:00.
