Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Chicago White Sox have traded Kannapolis Intimidators starting pitcher Jake Sanchez to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for outfielder Michael Taylor, who appeared in 26 games in the Major Leagues with the A's from 2011-13. Sanchez will reportedly be assigned to Class A-Advanced Stockton while the White Sox have announced Taylor will join Triple-A Charlotte.

Sanchez went 5-4 with Kannapolis and ranks 10th in the Class A South Alantic League with a 2.80 ERA (19 ER/61 IP) in 15 games (nine starts). His work during the first half of the season garnered him recognition as a SAL Mid-Season All-Star. The 24-year-old right-handed pitcher opened the season as the closer for Kannapolis, going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 12.1 scoreless relief innings, converting all three of his save chances before moving into the rotation. Sanchez, who was named Pioneer League Pitcher of the Year in 2013 with Advanced Rookie Great Falls, fanned a career-high 10 batters over 6.0 shutout innings at Rome on April 25 in his first start of nine starts with the Intimidators. He spun a complete-game on June 1 against Hagerstown, tossing 7.0 innings to earn the win in the first game of a doubleheader.

The White Sox signed Sanchez in June 2013 out of the independent Frontier League. The Brawley, Calif., native played his college ball at Iowa Wesleyan, where he was named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2012. Last season with Great Falls, Sanchez went 6-3 with a 2.87 ERA in 14 games (14 starts) with the Voyagers. He led the PL in ERA, strikeouts (76) and opponents average (.230).

Sanchez will not play in Tuesday's SAL All-Star Game in Hickory, N.C. The league will name a replacement from the Intimidators at a later time as Sanchez was to be the lone All-Star representing Kannapolis.

The Kannapolis Intimidators are in the 20th season of professional baseball in Kannapolis and the team's 14th as the Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. Since the team moved to Kannapolis in 1995, 77 players that have played in Kannapolis have gone on to the Major Leagues. This year's team is managed by Pete Rose Jr. CMC-NorthEast Stadium is located off I-85 at exit 63.
