Three in 9th for Hickory as Claws Fall 5-2

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Hickory scored three times in the 9th inning to break a 2-2 tie and top the BlueClaws on Saturday 5-2 at FirstEnergy Park to give the Crawdads two wins in the first three games of the series and 14 wins in their last 15 games overall.

Chris O'Hare (0-2) allowed all three runs (two earned), hitting Janluis Castro with the bases loaded to drive in the go-ahead run. Kellin Deglan added an RBI single and the third run scored on a passed ball.

Lakewood's Will Morris had thrown two perfect innings to get the game tied to the 9th inning. Josh McElwee (1-0) threw 3.1 innings of scoreless relief for the Crawdads and earned the win.

The BlueClaws took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Cody Asche. After Hickory tied the game in the fourth inning, Cody Asche, on a rehab assignment from the Phillies, added an RBI double to drive in Carlos Tocci and tie the game.

Lakewood starter Ranfi Casimiro gave up two runs on two hits over six innings while Hickory's Ryne Slack gave up two runs in 4.2 innings. Both starters earned no-decisions.

Asche, who had two home runs on Friday night, went 1-2 with a walk and is now 3-4 with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs in two games with Lakewood. He is scheduled to play again on Sunday in the series finale with Hickory.

The BlueClaws finish their series with Hickory, and the first half, on Sunday at 1:05. RHP Tyler Viza opposes RHP Ricardo Rodriguez. The All-Star break begins after Sunday's game, with the All-Star Game on Tuesday in Hickory. The second half opens Thursday when the BlueClaws host West Virginia.
