Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

NORFOLK, VA - Connor James recorded two goals - including his league-best fourth shorthanded goal of the season - as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins posted a 4-3 win against the Norfolk Admirals on Friday night at the Scope. The win upped the Penguins record to 11-9-0-1 on the season, while Norfolk fell to 6-11-1-3.

James recorded his seventh and eighth goals of the season, leaving him just one tally short of his total from the entire 2007-08 campaign. It was also James' first two-goal game since November 24, 2007, against the Binghamton Senators.

The four shorthanded tallies recorded by James so far this season are tied for the second most in a single season by a Penguins player. Stephen Dixon also netted four during the 2006-07 season, while Billy Tibbetts scored five in 2001-02.

The Penguins never trailed in the game. Bill Thomas put the visitors in front with a power play goal late in the first period, before Danny Boyle evened the score with 21 seconds remaining in the opening frame. James put the Pens ahead 2-1 with the shorty 12 minutes into the second period, but Blair Jones tied it up at 2-2 in the final minute of the frame.

James put the team back in front midway through the third period, and Jeff Taffe padded the lead with 3:25 to play. That turned out to be Taffe's third game-winning goal of the year, as Norfolk once again scored in the final minute of the period, this team getting a Brandon Bochenski score to make it 4-3.

Dave Brown stopped 26 shots to pick up his first AHL win of the season.

NOTES: Penguins scratches were Dave Gove, Jean-Michel Daoust, Jean-Phillipe Cote and Aaron Boogaard.
