
P-Bruins Defeat Sharks 5-3

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeat the Worcester Sharks 5-3 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Martins Karsums, Jeff Penner, Martin St. Pierre, Matt Lashoff and Jeremy Reich. The P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday versus the Hartford Wolf Pack at 4:05 p.m. for a Family Game.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 5:16 mark of the opening period, while on the power play. Matt Lashoff sent the puck into the zone for Vladimir Sobotka, who fed the puck to the front of the net for Karsums. He tipped the puck into the net for his eighth goal of the season. Providence went ahead 2-0 at the 12:02 mark. Peter Schaefer sent the puck down the right boards to Byron Bitz in the corner. He passed the puck into the left face off circle, where Penner picked it up and tallied his third goal of the season. The P-Bruins went into the first intermission leading 2-0.
The Sharks cut the lead in half at the 6:40 mark of the second period. Jamie McGinn netted his sixth goal of the season, while Patrick Traverse and Andrew Desjardins had the assists. Worcester tied the game at two at the 12:05 mark. Tom Cavanagh scored his eighth goal of the season with Cory Larose and Claude Lemieux getting the assists. The Sharks took their first lead of the game at the 14:16 mark. Ryan Vesce tallied his second goal of the season, while Steven Zalewski recorded the lone assist. Worcester went into the second intermission with the 3-2 lead.
In the third period, the P-Bruins tied the game at three at the 2:52 mark. Johnny Boychuk sent the puck down the boards and Sobotka tipped it to St. Pierre giving him a breakaway. St. Pierre fired the puck past Sharks net minder Thomas Greiss and into the net for his sixth goal of the season. Providence retook the lead at the 16:45 mark. Karsums held the puck at the left point and sent it to the right point for Adam McQuaid. He passed it to Lashoff at the right face off circle and he scored his fourth goal of the game. The P-Bruins finished off the scoring with an empty net goal at the 19:15 mark. Reich stole the puck and scored his fifth goal of the season. The P-Bruins went on to the 5-3 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 35 of 38 shots for the P-Bruins, while Greiss made 25 saves for the Sharks earning the shutout. The P-Bruins were 1-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins travel to Springfield to take on the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. at the MassMutual Center on Saturday before returning home to The Dunk Sunday afternoon against the Wolf Pack for a Family Game.
