Springfield Falcons News Release

The Springfield Falcons lost to the Philadelphia Phantoms 4-1 on Friday night at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA. Jason DeSantis opened the scoring for the Phantoms at 8:58 of the first period on the power play, followed by Jeff Szwez's one-timer beating Devan Dubnyk at 14:04 of the opening frame giving Philly a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes.

In the second period, Springfield cut their deficit to 2-1 when Derek Bekar scored his sixth marker of the year at 11:17 of the middle frame, but the Phantoms regained their two-goal advantage at 14:08 of the second period when Patrick Maroon tallied on the man advantage. Bekar almost cut Springfield's deficit to one goal again less than a minute after Maroon's marker, but Phantoms goaltender Scott Munroe made a last minute stick save on Bekar's scoring chance.

Despite outshooting the Phantoms 35-22 and applying some steady offensive pressure in the third period, the Falcons were held scoreless with Philadelphia adding an empty net goal ending the night for Springfield.
