TAMPA BAY, FL - The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have recalled defenseman Andrew Hutchinson from the Admirals, it was announced by Lightning Executive Vice President & General Manager Brian Lawton
Hutchinson, 28, is a 6-foot-2, 200-pound defenseman from Evanston, Illinois. He has appeared in 20 games with Norfolk this season, recording a goal, 13 assists and 14 penalty minutes. He has points and assists in his last five games with the Admirals and is currently tied for fourth in scoring among AHL defensemen.
Last April, Hutchinson captured the American Hockey League's 2007-08 Eddie Shore Award as the league's top defenseman as voted by AHL coaches, players and members of the media. He set personal highs with 18 goals, 46 assists and 64 points in 67 games as captain of the Hartford Wolf Pack. Hutchinson led all AHL defensemen in scoring, tied for first among AHL defensemen with 13 power-play goals and tied for fourth in the entire league with a plus-28 rating. He also set Hartford franchise records for goals and points by a defenseman and tied the mark for assists by a blueliner.
Hutchinson has appeared in 277 career American Hockey League games between Milwaukee, Hartford and Norfolk, recording 50 goals and 125 assists with 238 penalty minutes. He won the Calder Cup in 2004 with Milwaukee.
Hutchinson has skated in 95 career NHL games, scoring 10 goals and 23 assists with 52 penalty minutes between Nashville and Carolina. Selected by Nashville in the second round, 54th overall, at the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Hutchinson made his NHL debut in 2003 with Nashville and was a member of Carolina's 2006 Stanley Cup Championship team.
The Admirals will be back on the ice at Scope tonight and tomorrow night as they take on their East Division Rivals, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
