Iowa Chops News Release

The Iowa Chops came back from a 2-0 deficit and a 3-2 deficit, but couldn't solve the Manitoba Moose when it came to a shootout and fell on Friday night, 4-3. The Chops do get a point for the shootout loss, and have now recorded a point in their last four games. The Moose started the scoring early as Mark Derlago, playing in his first game for Manitoba, scored his first goal of the season to take a 1-0 lead. The Moose took a 2-0 lead with a goal from Maxime Fortunus, who smashed home a rebound after a beautiful sprawling save from Iowa Chops goaltender JP Levasseur. The Chops got back in the game with back-to-back goals from Joakim Lindstrom and Brendan Mikkelson. Lindstrom scored on the power play to make it 2-1, as his drive from the point after a pass from Andrew Ebbett, deflected off a Moose defender and in behind goaltender Karl Goehring. Mikkelson scored his first of the season just :55 seconds later as his drive from the point hit traffic in front and pinballed past Goehring to tie the game at 2-2. Ajay Baines and Troy Bodie assisted. The Moose regained the lead at 3-2 as Fortunus scored his second of the game, this time from the point that eluded Levasseur to the blocker side. The Chops dominated much of the 3rd period, outshooting the Moose 8-3 and got the game-tying goal with under five minutes remaining as Joakim Lindstrom scored his second of the game with a snipe that beat a sprawled Goehring over the right shoulder. Andrew Ebbett and Brett Festerling assisted. For the third straight game, the Iowa Chops would go to overtime, where they again dominated much of the play outshooting the Moose 3-1, but for the first time this season the game would be decided by a shootout. Both first round shooters scored, which included Iowa Chops forward Josh Green, but the remainder of the Iowa Chops shooters were blanked, while Manitoba scored twice more in the shootout to win the game 4-3. Iowa would outshoot Manitoba in the game 31-20. The 31 shots tied a season high for Iowa.
