Portland Pirates News Release

Manchester, NH - Portland fell for the fourth straight time, by a score of 3-1 in Manchester. The Pirates dropped the decision to a hot Monarchs team that has now won six straight contests. Portland was able to direct 42 shots on net, but only Tyler Bouck could beat Manchester goaltender Jonathan Quick.

In the first period, the Pirates were unable to kill off an early penalty, as the Monarchs scored on a 5-on-4 advantage. Viatcheslav Voynov took a slap shot from the right point and Pirates goaltender Adam Dennis made the initial save, but gave up a rebound in front. Trevor Lewis was able to collect the loose puck and stuff it home to give Manchester a 1-0 lead. Marty Murray and Voynov picked up the assists at 5:52 of the first period. Portland would throw 17 shots on net in the first period, tying a season high, but Manchester netminder Jonathan Quick was up to the task and preserved a 1-0 lead for the Monarchs.

In the second period, the pace slowed down until late in the period when the Pirates went on a power play. Mike Funk held the puck at the top of the left circle and set up a one timer for Chris Butler from the center point. Butler's shot was redirected in front by Tyler Bouck, beating Quick and tying the game at 1-1. Butler and Funk notched the assists on Bouck's fourth goal of the season. The equalizer came at 17:23 of the second period.

The third period would go back and forth for the first 10 minutes before the Monarchs were able to get the go ahead goal. Off a scramble in front, Adam Dennis made an initial save but couldn't hang on to the rebound. Marty Murray dug the puck free and found Bud Holloway inside the right faceoff circle. Holloway put a wrist shot into the top right corner for the eventual game winning goal. Vladimir Dravecky picked up an assist on the play as well. Manchester would hold onto its 2-1 lead for around five more minutes before Trevor Lewis added an insurance goal, beating Dennis low for his sixth goal of the season and his second of the night. Gabe Gauthier and Joe Piskula notched the helpers.

Jonathan Quick was spectacular in the win, making 41 saves on 42 shots to improve to 4-5-1. Adam Dennis stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced, but was dealt the loss. Dennis falls to 6-3-0 on the year.
