Houston Aeros fall 2-1 in overtime to the Milwaukee Admirals

HOUSTON, Texas - The Houston Aeros got on the board first early in the third period but fell to the Milwaukee Admirals 2-1 in overtime. The overtime loss moved Houston's home streak to 0-3-1-1 after the team started 5-0-0-0 at home. Houston (8-9-1-1) travels to San Antonio tomorrow for a 7 p.m. contest against the Rampage. Game Summary
The first period remained scoreless despite seven total power plays, five opportunities for Houston including 1:32 of 5-on-3 play. Houston out-shot the Admirals 11-2 in the opening frame. The +9 first-period shot differential tied a season high which was first set on October 18 versus San Antonio when the Aeros out-shot the Rampage 16-7 in the opening frame.
Milwaukee (11-6-0-1) had an eight shot advantage in the second period out-shooting the Aeros 15-7 yet the score remained 0-0 through 40 minutes of play. Power-play opportunities were just the opposite from the first period with five chances for Milwaukee compared to the Aeros two. The contest marked only the second time this season an Aeros' game had gone scoreless through two periods.
Clayton Stoner recorded the game's first goal only six seconds into the third period setting a franchise record for the fastest goal to start a period. The short-handed marker, assisted by Bryan Lundbohm directly from the faceoff, also snapped a season-long scoreless streak of 118:36. Milwaukee tied the game at the 14:01 mark in the final frame sending the contest to overtime with a 1-1 tie.
Ryan Jones, who skated for the Aeros last season, netted the unassisted game-winning goal at 3:49 in the extra session after he picked up a blocked shot in the Aeros' offensive zone for a clean break-away. Houston goaltender Nolan Schaefer knocked aside 31 of 33 shots through nearly 64 minutes of play as Drew MacIntyre blocked 27 of 28 for the Admirals' victory. Each team recorded 10 penalties for 23 minutes in the box.
