EL SEGUNDO, CA - The Bakersfield Jam (17-22) fell to the Los Angeles D-Fenders (23-16) 124-103 Thursday night at the Toyota Sports Center. All five Jam starters scored in double-figures led by Terrico White's 22.
Both teams opened up the game going back-and-forth, resulting in a total of six ties and four lead changes in the first quarter. Xavier Silas paced the Jam in the opening period with 11 points, but the Jam trailed the D-Fenders 32-31 after one quarter of play. The D-Fenders stretched their lead to as many as 10 points in the second frame and kept the lead at the half (60-57). White scored 18 of his 22 points in the first half.
Bakersfield and Los Angeles continued to battle in the third quarter, keeping it a tight game heading into the final frame. The fourth quarter was the difference in the game, as the Jam struggled to get a rhythm going and got outscored 35-14. Overall, the Jam shot 25 percent from the field in the final period, while the D-Fenders shot 61.1 percent.
Silas had 20 points (4/6 3FGs), while Xavier Munford tallied 16 points and six assists. Cory Jefferson posted 14 points and eight rebounds, while Atlanta Hawks assignee Walter 'Edy" Tavares finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.
Vander Blue led the way for Los Angeles with a game-high 41 points on 12-of-22 shooting, including 14-of-18 from the free-throw line. Jabari Brown added 26 points and Ryan Gomes recorded a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Josh Magette also notched in a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists.
The Jam return to action on Tuesday, March 8 when they host the Austin Spurs at 7:00 p.m. PT.
