Elmira Jackals News Release

Las Vegas, Nev. - The Elmira Jackals (20-18-5-0) started their season-long six-game road trip with a 4-3 win over the Las Vegas Wranglers (28-14-2-1) at Orleans Arena on Friday night. The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for the Jackals and was the club's first win since Jan. 15.

Eric Regan wristed a puck past the stick side of Las Vegas netminder Joe Fallon from the right circle at 10:47 of the opening period to put the Jackals up 1-0. Justin Donati and Mike Hoffman registered assists on the goal, with Hoffman's helper serving as his first-career ECHL point.

Garrett Zemlak, making his Jackals debut in net, turned aside the only four Las Vegas shots he saw in the first period. Chris Higgins' shot on from the slot on a feed from Ryan Huddy, however, beat Zemlak on Las Vegas' first chance in the second period to tie the game, 1-1, at 1:28.

Minutes later, Andrew Sweetland put Elmira in front for good. The Bonavista, Newfoundland native wristed a puck from the slot that jumped past Fallon's glove at 4:31 of the middle frame to make it 2-1.

In the third period, A.J. Perry padded Elmira's lead with a pair of goals, his 15th and 16th of the season. Perry one-timed a puck in from the left circle on a drop pass from Hoffman at 10:37 and then redirected a Regan drive into the net on the power play at 13:51, extending the advantage to 4-1.

A pair of late Wranglers goals by Matt Price at 16:18 and Geoff Paukovich at 19:52 brought Las Vegas to within a goal, 4-3, but Elmira prevented the Wranglers from getting a shot on goal in the final seconds to earn the victory.

Zemlak began his career as a Jackal with 26 saves to start off 1-0 with Elmira. Fallon's seven-game winning streak ended as he stopped 24 of 28 shots, falling to 16-7-1-0.

The Jackals and the Wranglers play the second game of their three-game series on Saturday night at 10:05 p.m. (ET).
