Tim Kraus had a hat trick and former Ace Ryan MacMurchy had five assists as the Victoria Salmon Kings beat the Alaska Aces 6-2 from Victoria on Friday night. The Aces record dropped to 24-18-3 on the season. The clubs will finish a three-game set on Saturday. Victoria controlled play from the onset of the game, outshooting the Aces 13-4 in the first. Kraus tallied at 8:05 of the opening period for the only goal of the frame. The Salmon Kings had quality chances throughout the period, but Gerald Coleman was solid for the Aces keeping it a one-goal game.

In the second, the Kings blew the game open. Kraus added two goals as part of a four-goal period for Victoria. Kiel McLeod and Ryan Turek also scored as the Salmon Kings were comfortably in front 5-0 at second intermission. Coleman was pulled following the Kings fourth goal, and Adam Courchaine came on in relief.

The Aces got on the board in the third after Tyler Ruegsegger finished off a nifty set up from Kory Falite at 5:25 to get Alaska's first goal. Victoria capped their scoring when Rick Cleaver scored a power play goal at 7:12 of the third. Falite banged home a rebound on an Aces power play late in the game to complete the scoring.

Gerald Coleman (19-12-1) made 19 saves on 23 shots, taking the loss. Courchaine made 7 saves on 9 shots and did not figure into the decision. David Shantz (16-16-3) earned the win, making 22 saves on 24 shots. The Aces power play went 1-4, while the Salmon Kings went 3-6. The Aces were outshot by the Kings 32-24 in the game.

The Aces will return to face the Salmon Kings again on Saturday, before returning on Feb. 11th-13th to host the Stockton Thunder.
