Goldie Makes ECHL History In Aces' 3-1 Victory

February 5, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

Wes Goldie scored his 316th ECHL goal in his 600th ECHL game, moving into 5th place all-time in both categories, as his two-point night helped the Alaska Aces beat the Victoria Salmon Kings 3-1 on Saturday evening. The Aces improved to 25-18-3 on the year, and snapped a franchise-worst, eight-game road losing skid. Goldie's milestone night came in Victoria, where he had spent the last four seasons, and left as the franchise's all-time leading goal scorer. The Aces will now return home for three games on Feb. 11th, 12th, and 13th to host the Stockton Thunder at Sullivan Arena. After a couple of tough losses, the Aces came out an inspired hockey team to open the game. They generated chances throughout the frame, got a big period in net from Adam Courchaine who made two solid glove saves, and for the first time in the week scored the game's opening goal. It came in the final seconds of the period, when Steve Ward scored on a one-timer from the blue line after the Aces picked off a clearing attempt from Salmon Kings netminder David Shantz. The Aces outshot the Kings 13-10 in the frame and took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The clubs traded goals midway through the second period. Ryan MacMurchy scored on a shorthanded breakaway at 9:27 to pull the Kings even 1-1. But just 35 seconds later, on an Aces two-man advantage, Brian Swanson scored on a rebound to quickly reclaim Alaska's lead at 2-1

Protecting a one-goal lead in the third, the Aces stormed through the final frame, outshooting the Salmon Kings 18-2. Goldie's goal at 18:34 helped secure the victory, and was his first ever goal against the Salmon Kings.

Adam Courchaine (6-6-1) made 18 saves on 19 shots, earning the win. David Shantz (16-17-3) took the loss, making 34 saves on 37 shots. The Aces power play went 1-4, while the Salmon Kings went 0-2. The Aces outshot the Kings 37-19 in the game.

The Aces will return home on Feb. 11th-13th to host the Stockton Thunder. For the most up to date team and promotional information, please visit the Aces on Facebook at www.facebook.com/alaskaaces. Fans can also call the Aces office at 907.258.ACES.
