Isotopes Leave Nashville with Series Win

Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
NASHVILLE -- Alfredo Amezaga hit a three-run double in the top of the ninth inning, then started a tough 4-6-3 double play to end the game as the Albuquerque Isotopes rallied for a 7-4 win over the Nashville Sounds on Monday afternoon at Herschel Greer Stadium.
The Isotopes (26-25) won three of four games in the series.
Topes starter Aaron Laffey allowed two runs (one earned) in six efficient innings, throwing just 72 pitches. Laffey started the scoring with an RBI single, a chopper over the head of Sounds third baseman Josh Prince.
Tim Federowicz hit a solo home run in the third inning, his eighth of the season. In the seventh, Federowicz hit a two-run double down the left-field line to give the Topes a 4-2 lead.
Cole Garner hit solo home runs in the fifth and seventh innings for Nashville.
In the eighth, Chris Withrow allowed a leadoff single to Khris Davis, who then attempted to steal second base. None of the Topes middle infielders covered the base and there was no throw. Caleb Gindl bunted, and Withrow threw errantly to first base, allowing Davis to score the tying run. Withrow (4-0) settled down, retired the next three hitters without allowing any additional runs, and would pick up the win.
In the ninth, Federowicz and Chili Buss singled off Tim Dillard (0-1). Rusty Ryal hit a slow roller to third, and Buss beat the throw to second base. With the bases loaded, Amezaga drove the ball over Davis' head in left field to clear the bases.
Kelvin De La Cruz walked the leadoff hitter in the ninth, but he induced Hainley Statia to bounce into a double play to end the game and record his first save.
The Topes road trip continues Monday with the opener of a four-game series at Memphis. The Topes send Memphis native Matt Palmer to the mound against Redbirds' left-hander Nick Addition. First pitch is at 6:02 Mountain Time.
