Round Rock Express News Release

MEMPHIS - Behind a solid pitching performance from starter Josh Lindblom, the Round Rock Express (27-24) topped the Memphis Redbirds (26-23) 5-2 Monday afternoon at AutoZone Park.

The Express was able to get on board early, putting up a run in the second inning. Designated hitter Robinson Chirinos took a base after getting hit by Memphis starter Scott McGregor. He came around to score two batters later on a single by Greg Miclat.

Round Rock padded their lead with three more runs in the third. Center fielder Engel Beltre started things out with a single and immediately stole second with Jim Adduci at the plate. Adduci hit a single of his own to advance Beltre. First baseman Chris McGuiness hit a sacrifice fly to plate Beltre. Adduci swiped a bag of his own, advancing to second on his 13th stolen base of the season. He scored two batters later on a double off the bat of Yangervis Solarte. Mike Biannuci came in the game replacing designated hitter Chirinos, and hit a single to score Solarte and give the Express a 4-0 lead.

The Redbirds threatened to answer back in the third, loading the bases with just one out. Lindblom retired the next two batters on strikeouts to end the inning.

Memphis got on the board in the bottom of the fourth after Lindblom plunked third baseman Jermaine Curtis to open the inning. The next batter, Jamie Romak, launched a two-run home run over the left field wall on the first offering from Lindblom, making it 4-2 Memphis. The Redbirds put two more runners on base before the Express recorded the first out. Lindblom got the next three batters to hit into ground outs, giving up just two runs on the inning.

Neither team managed more than a hit through the next three innings.

In the top of the eighth, the Express' hot bats continued. Adduci reached base on a throwing error and advanced to second on Joey Butler single. Solarte drew a walk to load the bases with just one out. Bianucci ground out for the second out, but allowed Adduci to cross the plate, making it 5-2 Express. Mark Teahen grounded out in the next at-bat to end the Express' chances of tacking on more runs.

Lindblom was replaced in the bottom half of the inning by reliever Yohan Jan. Round Rock's starter had a solid outing in his first start with the Express after making a spot start in Arlington a week ago. He gave up just two runs (both earned) on seven hits over 7.0 innings. He issued just one walk while striking out five en route to his fifth win of the season.

Yan pitched a perfect eighth inning, retiring all three batters on a pop out and two ground outs. Express closer Cory Burns came in to close out the game in the ninth. He picked up his 10th save of the season, allowing just one hit, a double, and recording one strikeout.

The Express split the series with Memphis with the win today, their sixth series split of the season.

Round Rock heads to New Orleans (Miami Marlins) for a four-game set starting tomorrow before returning home to Dell Diamond on Saturday, June 1 for four games against the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers).
