MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Round Rock Express handed the Memphis Redbirds a 5-2 defeat behind seven strong innings from starting pitcher Josh Lindblom (5-0) on Memorial Day afternoon at AutoZone Park.
Round Rock won the final two games of the series for a four-game series split after being shut out by Memphis (26-23) through the initial 27.0 innings.
Lindblom gave up two runs on seven hits while fanning five over seven innings. Cory Burns converted his team-leading 10th save to finish the contest.
Kolten Wong went 2-for-5 to extend his season-best hitting streak to 15 games. Justin Christian also had two hits to push his hitting streak to eight straight. Jermaine Curtis went hitless to end his seven-gamer.
Memphis starter Scott McGregor recorded four strikeouts in a row before allowing four runs over the second and third innings. Robinson Chirinos was hit by a pitch in the second and later scored on a Greg Miclat base hit to center. The Express tacked on three more in the top of the third, thanks to three singles and a double off the former Memphis Tiger.
After Curtis was hit by a pitch to open the bottom of the fourth, Jamie Romak accounted for Memphis' only runs with a two-bomb over the left field wall. The home run was Romak's eighth of the season, tying the slugger with Brock Peterson for the team lead.
The Express added an unearned run for insurance in the eighth against Kevin Siegrist, as Mike Bianucci hit an infield groundout to score Jim Adduci.
McGregor (1-1) took the loss, yielding seven hits for four runs while fanning five in five innings. Ramon Delgado struck out a pair in two innings in his Triple-A debut. Marc Rzepczynski struck out two in his inning of work.
The Redbirds welcome the Albuquerque Isotopes to AutoZone Park for a four-game series beginning at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday night. Right-hander Matt Palmer (1-3, 5.97) will start for the Isotopes.
