May 27, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Colorado Springs, Co.--Fresno Grizzlies (28-24) right-hander Shane Loux (5-2) pitched a nine-inning, three-hit complete game as he led the visitors to an 8-1 win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (30-19) at Security Service Field on Memorial Day afternoon.
It was Loux's first complete game since game one of a doubleheader in Fresno against Las Vegas in a seven-inning contest on June 5th, 2011. Prior to Loux, the last nine-inning complete game for Fresno was June 17th, 2011 by Barry Zito in a rehab assignment against Salt Lake.
Loux needed 107 pitches in the gem as the Grizzlies avoided the sweep. He allowed one run (earned), one walk, and struck out two. His first strikeout of the game, fanning Ben Paulsen in the fifth, was Loux's 1,000th punchout in his professional career.
The Grizzlies jumped on the board in the first inning. With two out, Fresno left fielder Francisco Peguero reached on a fielding error by Colorado Springs shortstop Charlie Culberson. Grizzlies right fielder Roger Kieschnick followed with an RBI double to right for the first run. With second baseman Tony Abreu up next, Sky Sox catcher Lars Davis tried to pick off Kieschnick at second but the ball went into center field, and that scored Kieschnick for the second tally.
Fresno center fielder Gary Brown led the way offensively with a pair of two-out, two-run singles. He had one in the second inning and another in the fourth. He has six RBIs over his last two games. Shortstop Carter Jurica, and first baseman Johnny Monell also contributed with RBI singles.
Colorado Springs right-handed starter Jeff Manship (3-2) lasted six innings. He gave up seven hits and seven runs (five earned), walked three, and struck out two.
Fresno now heads to Tucson for a scheduled four-game series against the Padres starting with a Tuesday 7:05 p.m. start. Right-hander Austin Fleet will make his first Triple-A start. This year at A-San Jose, Fleet was 4-1 in 10 appearances (four starts) with a 3.55 ERA. Tucson will send right-hander Burch Smith to the hill, who will also make his Triple-A debut despite being in three big league games this year with San Diego with an 0-1 record.
GRIZZLIES PAWS: It was Brown's first four-RBI game since April 20th of last year with Double-A Richmond at Altoona (PIT).
The last Fresno pitched complete game at Colorado Springs was by Brad Hennessey on July 14th, 2008.
It was Loux first nine-inning complete game effort since he was with Round Rock when he shut out Albuquerque on September 3rd, 2010.
