Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-The Reno Aces completed a series split with Tacoma on Memorial Day, with an 11-10 loss to the Rainiers at Aces Ballpark.
Reno was in an early 4-0 hole entering the bottom of the third, when the club posted five runs on five hits to take command. The lead was short-lived, as the Rainiers tied the game at five in the top of the next frame.
The Aces again broke away in the sixth, pushing across four runs. Two Rainiers pitchers combined for three wild pitches, one of which allowed Tyler Kuhn to score from third. The Aces also scored off a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly.
Alex Liddi marked the go-ahead run at the plate with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, and his two-RBI double brought the Rainiers within one, down 10-9. Another two-RBI double by Stefen Romero drove in the winning run.
Matt Davidson singled to center to lead off the ninth, putting the go-ahead run at the plate, but the Aces were unable to produce any more offense.
At the dish for Reno, four batters had a multi-hit game. Kuhn went 3-for-4 at the plate, with an RBI and two runs scored. In his third game of a Major League Rehabilitation Assignment with the Aces, Willie Bloomquist went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored.
For Tacoma, Liddi went 4-for-5 at the plate, with three RBI and three runs scored.
Both clubs used a spot starter on the afternoon due to call-ups from their respective Major League clubs.
RHP Willy Paredes did not factor into the decision in his Triple-A debut for Reno, giving up five runs-four earned on five hits through 5.0 innings, while striking out four. Reliever Bo Schultz, who entered the game with one out and the bases loaded in the ninth, was charged with a blown save and the loss.
Tacoma reliever Bobby LaFromboise earned his fourth win of the season, giving up two runs on three hits through 2.2 innings, while striking out four. Brian Moran, who shutout the Aces in the ninth to close the game, was credited with his second save of the season.
The Aces now travel to Las Vegas for a four-game road set against the 51s, before returning to Aces Ballpark for a stretch of 12 home games in 13 days, beginning June 1. RHP Randall Delgado (1-4, 7.43 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Las Vegas will counter with RHP Matt Fox (1-1, 5.40 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and all of the action can be heard on KPLY 630 AM.
