Tacoma Rainiers News Release
RENO, Nev. - The Rainiers posted a five-run rally in the ninth inning to top Reno 11-10 at Aces Ballpark on Monday. The victory earned Tacoma a series split in their finale with the Aces.
The Rainiers trailed 10-6 before posting a big inning in the game's final frame. Franklin Gutierrez and Alex Liddi drove in a combined three runs after each doubled with one out. Outfielder Stefen Romero completed the come-from-behind effort after plating the go-ahead runs with a two-out, two-run two-bagger.
Tacoma held a lead as large as 4-0 through the top of the third inning. Liddi hit a solo home run in the first - his team-leading ninth this season - to give Tacoma a 1-0 edge. Gutierrez and infielder Brad Miller fueled a three-run frame in the third after recording an RBI double and an RBI single with one out.
The lead did not last through the inning, with Reno jumping ahead 5-4 with five runs in the bottom of the third. Abraham Almonte's RBI single tied the game at 5-5 in the fourth, but the Aces bounced back with four more runs in the sixth.
Tacoma's lineup collected a combined 10 hits in the finale. Liddi led the club after going 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored, and Gutierrez recorded his second consecutive multi-hit game after notching a pair of doubles.
Left-handed reliever Bobby LaFromboise (4-0) earned the win despite allowing two runs on three hits over 2.2 innings of work out of the bullpen. Right-hander Jonathan Arias surrendered five runs on four hits over 2.2 innings in a spot start for Hector Noesi, who was recalled by the Mariners earlier in the day.
The Rainiers (31-21) road trip continues when the team heads to Colorado Springs for a four-game series with the division-leading Sky Sox that begins at 6:05 p.m. tomorrow, May 28. Right-hander Jeremy Bonderman (2-4, 4.86) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against Colorado Springs' right-hander Drew Carpenter (1-4, 6.38).
