New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The New Orleans Zephyrs could only cash in three runs off 12 hits on Monday afternoon and the Omaha Storm Chasers salvaged the series finale, 7-3.

The Z's led off the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Kevin Kouzmanoff drove Kevin Mattison home on a single to give New Orleans a 1-0 lead.

Zephyrs starter A.J. Battisto held the lead until the fourth inning, when Omaha scored four times. Christian Colon led the inning off with a single and moved to third on a perfectly-executed hit-and-run by Johnny Giavotella. Max Ramirez reached on a fielder's choice and an error by Paul Gran that tied the game at 1-1.

Xavier Nady then hit a line drive that carried over the left field fence for a three-run shot, his eighth home run of the season.

New Orleans pulled a run back in the fifth, but squandered a bigger opportunity. The Zephyrs loaded the bases with no outs, and Gil Velazquez lined an RBI single through the left side. After Ed Lucas struck out, Kouzmanoff hit a fly ball to shallow right field that was caught by Anthony Seratelli, who threw to first to complete an inning-ending double play.

Battisto gave up a lead-off double in the sixth, then was pulled two batters later when Nady drove in his fourth run of the day with a single.

Mattison hit his third home run of the season in the seventh to complete the scoring.

The Zephyrs will face the Round Rock Express for a four-game set beginning Tuesday at 7 p.m.
