Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (22-12) officially won the series with a victory over the Toledo Mud Hens (18-18), taking game four by a final score of 10-2, Friday at Principal Park.
Like Toledo did yesterday, Iowa got out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, using two home runs to jump in front. Jake Slaughter started it off with a two-run home run followed by a solo shot by Edwin Ríos.
They went up 4-0 on an error in the fourth inning, and Nick Neidert kept the Mud Hens scoreless through his five innings of work. He allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out one.
Toledo got on the board with two runs in the top of the sixth inning on a single from Andrew Knapp, but Iowa immediately scored three of their own in the home half. The three runs came on home runs from Jared Young and Sergio Alcántara to go up 7-2.
Alcántara drove in another run with a single in the eighth, following by an RBI double from Darius Hill and a sacrifice fly by Mike Tauchman. With a 10-2 lead, three relievers spun three scoreless frames to secure Iowa a series victory over the Mud Hens.
POSTGAME NOTES:
Nick Neidert gave Iowa 5.0 innings, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out one. He is the fourth Iowa starter in the first four games of the series to go 5.0 innings.
