Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

MOOSIC, PENN. - Five Omaha Storm Chasers pitchers combined to strike out 15 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders hitters in a thrilling 4-3 win in 11 innings Thursday night at PNC Field.

While the RailRiders worked onto the board in the bottom of the first inning against starter Jonathan Heasley, Heasley settled into a groove and retired 9 in a row between the second and fifth innings, facing the minimum over his last three frames.

Behind Heasley, left-hander Evan Sisk pitched a perfect sixth inning, before putting two runners on in the seventh to give way to Brooks Kriske. Returning to face the organization that drafted him, Kriske retired all five batters he faced with four strikeouts, including striking out the side in the eighth.

All the meanwhile, Omaha tied the game early, then took a late lead and added insurance. A double play bounced into by Major League rehabber Drew Waters scored Tucker Bradley and tied the game at 1-1 in the third. The game remained tied until the seventh inning, when Angelo Castellano singled in Dairon Blanco for a 2-1 Storm Chasers lead, after Blanco, who singled himself on base, then stole second and third base to bring him to 20 steals on the year.

CJ Alexander opened the top of the ninth with a solo home run to center field, his fifth of the season to double Omaha's lead to two runs, 3-1.

Nick Wittgren took the mound to earn his fourth save of the season in the bottom of the ninth, but was immediately met with trouble, as the first pitch he threw was alleged to have hit the batter, leading to the ejection of Chasers manager Mike Jirschele. Three straight RailRiders singles tied the game with nobody out, but an outfield assist from Tyler Gentry, plus a strikeout and flyout forced extra innings.

Neither team scored in the 10th inning, with Omaha going down in order and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre loading the bases though Andrés Núñez worked out of trouble to send the game to the 11th.

Again in the 11th, Omaha could not put a runner on but Samad Taylor opened the inning on second base as the placed runner of the extra inning and moved to third base on a wild pitch, then scored the go-ahead run on another wild pitch for a 4-3 lead.

Núñez allowed a leadoff single in the bottom of the 11th, but worked a double play on a line drive to the shortstop Castellano, then ended the game on the pitching staff's 15th strikeout of the evening.

Omaha will try and even the series at two games each on Friday as Major League rehabber Daniel Lynch is projected to start for the Storm Chasers.
