All-Star forward Tyler Doig had a goal and two assists as the Columbia Inferno (12-13-4-2, 30 points) beat the visiting Charlotte Checkers (12-10-0-4, 28 points) 4-2 on Friday afternoon.

Jeremy Hall gave the Inferno a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the first when he accepted a pass from Doig and fluttered a shot over Checkers goalie Matt Zaba's glove side from the left wing boards.

The Inferno would hold on to the one-goal advantage until midway through the second period. Checkers captain Blake Bellefeuille knotted the game 1-1 when he rocketed a shot past Jeff Jakaitis' glove side shortly after the Checkers successfully killed a two-man advantage for the Inferno. Doig reclaimed the lead for the Inferno at 14:03 when his slapshot from the point beat Zaba high blocker side. The Checkers tied the game just three minutes later when defenseman Matt Waddell wristed a shot from the point past Jakaitis' blocker side.

Daniel Sparre's 15th goal of the year put the Inferno on top for good midway through the third period, with an assist to Doig. Anthony Battaglia gave the Inferno an insurance goal less than a minute later when he smacked a Liam Huculak rebound past a sprawling Zaba.

Zaba finished with 31 saves on 35 shots while Jakaitis stopped 27 of 29.

The Inferno return to the Carolina Coliseum on Wednesday, Jan. 2 to host the Gwinnett Gladiators at 1:05 p.m. for New 92 FM's Call In Sick Day.
