Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - The Johnstown Chiefs (11-17-0-1=23) scored three times in the first period and never looked back, beating the Wheeling Nailers (9-18-1-2=21) 5-2 Friday night at WesBanco Arena. Jean Desrochers and Alexandre Imbeault each contributed with four points for Johnstown who snapped an eight-game losing streak with the win.
The Chiefs' first goal came on a power play at 4:32 of the first period. Desrochers poked a rebound over a sprawling Martin Houle and Imbeault finished the job by sliding it across the goal line for his 10th goal of the season. Randy Rowe was also credited with an assist on the play.
The same three players combined on the Chiefs next goal to expand their lead to 2-0. Rowe was setup for a one-timer by Imbeault, feeding him a pass from behind the net at 9:39 of the first.
Just before the close of the frame, the Chiefs struck again with Vincent Zaore's first professional goal at 18:52. His slap shot from the blue line rolled slowly off his stick but somehow found its way through the legs of Houle and into the net.
Nathan Marsters took over in goal in the second period for the Martin Houle who allowed three goals on 18 shots.
The lone goal of the second period belonged to the Nailers. With Wheeling on the power play, Sean Collins lofted one over the glove of Ryan Nie for his fourth of the year at 8:44. David Laliberte and Ned Havern were given assists.
Johnstown pulled away in the third with a pair of goals separated by two minutes to increase the lead to 5-1. Rowe registered his second of the game with a power play mark at 10:11 while Robbie Drummond followed suit even strength at 12:12.
Laliberte added his ninth of the season with 2:46 left on the clock from Collins and Jon D'Aversa.
Wheeling was 1-for-5 on the power play and outshot 41-22 in the game. Johnstown scored twice on six chances with the man advantage.
The Nailers hit the road for the first of two straight games with the Dayton Bombers Saturday at 7pm. They return home to face them on Monday at 7:05pm. The Nailers will raffle off the 15th Anniversary Harley Davidson and Doan Ford will give away a chance to win a new car. Call 304-234-GOAL or visit www.wheelingnailers.com for details.
