Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

The Victoria Salmon Kings began their post-Christmas three games in three night California road trip with a stop in Stockton to take on the Thunder.

The Kings jumped out right away when Kevin Estrada put a bouncing puck past Thunder goaltender Tim Boron just a 1:25 in. The Thunder would respond when David Rohlfs went top corner on the glove side past Salmon Kings netminder Julien Ellis on a two-on-one. Stockton would jump ahead less than two minutes later when another two-on-one resulted in a goal by Ryan MacMurchy. That is how the teams would go to the dressing room.

Victoria got on the board first in the second when Wes Goldie took a pass from Ryan Wade as a penalty expired and went for a skate. He dangled past the Thunder defenders, then made Boron go down on a great move before skating behind the net and putting the puck right on Estrada's stick who has a wide open cage for his second goal of the night. Both teams ran into penalty trouble in the second with the Kings giving up four power play opportunities and the Thunder going shorthanded five times. Victoria was the only one of the two to capitalize as Jordan Krestanovich put a Ryan Wade rebound in past Boron. Salmon Kings led 3-2 after 40 minutes.

The Kings jumped out to a two goal lead when Ash Goldie scored on a 5-on-3 power play, but Stockton would respond to make it 4-3. Victoria would salt the game away when Derek Krestanovich put a Darryl Lloyd rebound past Boron. Salmon Kings 5 Thunder 3. Victoria went 2-11 (18.2%) and Stockton was 1-9 (11.1%) on the power play. Stockton outshot Victoria 31-30.

The Salmon Kings head to Fresno for the next two nights for games versus the Falcons. Saturday night's contest gets underway at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday's at 5:00 p.m. The King's then return to the friendly confines of the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre where the Utah Grizzlies will come to town for a three game set beginning on Thursday, January 3rd at 7:05 p.m. Get your tickets today by phoning 220-7889.
