IceGators sign former second-round pick Linnik to tryout agreement

Lafayette, LA – The Louisiana IceGators have signed defenseman Maxim Linnik to a tryout agreement, IceGators vice president of hockey operations and head coach Dave Farrish announced Wednesday. Linnik is the 21st player (seventh tryout agreement) signed by the IceGators, who hit the ice for the first time this Sunday.

Linnik (pronounced max-ZEEM, LIN-ick) is a 23-year-old native of Kiev, Russia. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound blueliner played two games with CSKA Moscow in 2001-02, accumulating two penalty minutes. His first full professional season was in 2000-01, when he played with both Rockford and Muskegon of the United Hockey League. Linnik recorded seven points (3g, 4a) and 43 penalty minutes in 41 games with Rockford. He sports two games of American Hockey League experience, having played two games with Worcester in 1999-2000 after finishing up his junior career. He spent two seasons in juniors (Ontario Hockey League), playing for three teams.

Linnik was a second-round draft pick of the St. Louis Blues (No. 41 overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He sports career totals of seven points (3g, 4a) and 57 penalty minutes in 49 pro contests, including his stint in Russia.

The Louisiana IceGators, now owned by the Orlando Predators Entertainment Group (NASDAQ: PRED), open up their eighth ECHL season on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in Arkansas. Louisiana's home opener is Sunday, Oct. 13 at 4:05 p.m. For ticketing information call 234-4423, ext. 208.
