September 25, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greensboro Generals News Release
Greensboro, NC â The Greensboro Generals of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) have added four more players to the fold. Defensemen Geno Parrish and Roman Marakhovski and forwards Craig Desjarlais and Adam Doucette have all signed tryout agreements, bringing the roster to 17 players. The newcomers will look to make their impression on new Generals coach Rick Adduono on the first day of training camp, which starts on Monday, September 30 at 9:00 a.m. at the IceHouse skating rink.
Parrish, 27, blossomed in his second year as a pro last year with the Port Huron Border Cats and Knoxville Speed of the United Hockey League (UHL). The 5'11", 185-pound blueliner was seventh in the league amongst defensemen with 48 points on ten goals and 38 assists, mostly with the Border Cats. Parrish's 38 assists last season ranked fifth in the league amongst defensemen.
Marakhovski, 24, is also coming off a career year. Playing for the Corpus Christi IceRays and the New Mexico Scorpions in the Central Hockey League (CHL), Marakhovski notched 24 points (4g, 20a) and 71 penalty minutes in 55 games, all career highs in his fourth pro season.
Desjarlais, 26, was a teammate of Parrish's for parts of the last two seasons with the Speed. The 6'1", 190 pound right wing notched 20 goals and 25 assists for 45 points in 59 games for Knoxville before being dealt to the Fort Wayne Komets late in the season.
Coincidentally, Doucette also started his pro career with the Speed last year and was a teammate of both Parrish and Desjarlais. He only played four games in Knoxville, scoring one goal, before moving on to the Wichita Thunder of the CHL. The 22-year old was a sparkplug in the Wichita lineup, scoring 13 points (4g, 9a) and adding 140 penalty minutes in 47 games.
Greensboro's season opener is slated for Friday, October 11 at 7:30 at the Lexington Men O'War. The Generals' home opener is Friday, October 25 at 7:30 against the Reading Royals. Opening night is Hooters Magnetic Schedule Night, with the first 2,000 fans entering the building receiving a Generals 2002-2003 schedule. The Generals are currently selling season tickets for all 36 home games for as low as $255.00 for goal view seats.
