St. John's IceCaps News Release
Rookie standout Brenden Kichton collected a goal and two assists to lead the St. John's IceCaps to their season-high, fourth straight win - 3-1 over the Providence Bruins - Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence.
IceCaps netminder Michael Hutchinson was sensational in his fourth consecutive start, turning aside 34 Bruins drives as St. John's killed seven penalties.
Andrew Gordon, with his team-leading 15th goal of the season, opened the scoring on the powerplay at 4:31 of the second. Gordon took a pass from John Albert and fired a slap shot from the top of the right face-off circle past Bruins netminder Niklas Svedberg. Kichton had the other assist. Providence tied the game at 9:59 of the second as a hard-charging Matt Lindblad converted a pass in the slot from Nick Johnson past Hutchinson. Chris Casto had the other assist.
Kichton scored the game-winner on the powerplay at 3:53 of the third. Patrice Cormier won the draw and fed Will O'Neill who dished to Kichton whose one-timer went top shelf. Jason Jaffray converted a rebound just outside the crease at 10:10 to seal the game. Kichton and MacKinnon drew assists.
