Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs were going for their second consecutive win over the Wranglers, but came up empty with a 4-1 loss. It was the same score the Ice Dogs beat the Wranglers by in Las Vegas on Friday night.

Both teams came out hard, playing to a scoreless first period. In the second, the Wranglers (27-13-5) go on the board first on a goal by Doug Wright just 52 seconds into the period. The Ice Dogs (14-26-3) answered back with 5:50 to go in the second on a goal by Kevin McDonald. But just 1:28 later, former Ice Dog Jeff Attard scored what proved to be the game winner when Trevor Read was given a penalty for cross checking.

Las Vegas went on to score two third period goals, another by Jeff Attard and the final by Greg Day. The game got especially heated in the third period when Wrangler goaltender Marc Magliarditi went after Nick Ganga, cross checking him in the back and punching him. Magliarditi was given a two minute penalty for roughing despite the severity, sending Ice Dogs coach Kevin Kaminski into a tirade. Kaminski was then given a game misconduct for throwing the teams' sticks onto the ice.

Las Vegas held a 31-18 shot advantage in the game, as T.J. Aceti made 27 saves in the losing effort. This was the fifth meeting of the season between these two teams, with the Wranglers holding a record of 4-1-0. They will meet again in Las Vegas on February 14 and 15 for a rematch.
