Gladiators Win Second Straight, knock off Charlotte 5-4

Steve Slonina and Kevin Doell each posted two goals to help the Gladiators post a 5-4 win over the Charlotte Checkers at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Thursday night. The win was the Gladiators second consecutive win in as many games and pushed the Gladiators record to 25-16-4.

Steve Slonina picked up a rebound in the slot and flipped the loose puck over Charlotte netminder David St. Germain. Chris Durno set up the play by intercepting a Charlotte break-out pass to pick up an assist on the goal at 8:17 of the first period.

The Gladiators took a 2-0 lead on Anthony Aquino's laser slapshot that beat St. Germain and clanked off of both goal posts at 8:48 of the period. Brandon Dietrich and Phil Lewandowski each picked up an assist on the goal.

Charlotte cut the Gladiators lead back to one on the power play as Doug Christiansen slipped a rebound past Gladiators netminder Trevor Prior. Nick Billotto and Rory Rawlyk added assist on the goal at 14:57 of the period.

Kevin Deoll squirted through the Charlotte defense and ripped a shot past St. Germain to push the Gladiators lead back to two goals. Doell tallied the unassisted goal at 1:19 of the second period to give the Gladiators a 3-1 lead.

Charlotte cut the Gladiators lead back to one on a goal by Conrad McKay. Brandon Cullen anbd Ryan Cuthbert added the assist on the goal at 2:21 of the middle period.

Steve Slonina's second goal of the night gave the Gladiators a 4-2 lead eight minutes into the second period. Kris Goodjohn and Chris Durno added assists on the goal.

Charlotte added its second power play tally of the game on Richard Keyes snapshot from the right wing circle. Rory Rawlyk and Nick Billotto added the assists on the goal at 15:25 of the second.

Kevin Doell regained the Gladiators two goal lead as the ripped a shot past St. Germain at 9:52 of the period. Cam Brown and Blue Bennefied each picked up assists on the game winning goal.

Mike Wirll rounded out the scoring at 15:50 of the third but it was not enough for the Checkers. Lucas Lawson and Richard Keyes had the assists on the delayed penalty goal.

Trevor Prior pickes up his second consecutive win by making 24 saves in the win for the Gladiators.
