Green Becomes 237th ECHL Player In NHL

PRINCETON, N.J. - Former Macon center Mike Green became the 237th ECHL player to advance to the National Hockey League when he made his debut with Florida on Tuesday. Green had 21 shifts and won four of seven faceoffs in the Panthers 3-0 loss at San Jose. Green played 15 shifts and won one of six faceoffs in Florida's 5-4 overtime win at Phoenix on Wednesday.

Prior to being called up to Florida, Green had scored 34 points (12g-22a) in 43 games with San Antonio of the American Hockey League.

Signed as an unrestricted free agent by Florida on March 29, 2000, the 5-11 and 195-pound Green led Macon with 35 assists and tied for the team lead with 62 points (27g-35a) in 54 games with in 2001-02. He also played in the AHL with Cincinnati in 2001-02 scoring 11 points (2g-9a) in 22 regular season games while also appearing in three playoff games. In 2002-03 with San Antonio, the 24-year-old Green scored 60 points (26g-34a) in 80 regular season games and two points (0g-2a) in three playoff games.

There have been 22 players in 2003-04 that have made their first NHL appearance since playing in the ECHL. Green becomes the 21st ECHL player to make his NHL debut in 2003-04 joining Johnathan Aitken (Chicago on November 26), Ryan Barnes (Detroit on December 15), Mike Bishai (Edmonton on January 29), Darryl Bootland (Detroit on November 8), Garrett Burnett (Anaheim on October 8), Carl Corazzini (Boston on January 15), Andrew Hutchinson (Nashville on October 18), Boyd Kane (Philadelphia on October 16), Patrick Leahy (Boston on December 6), Steve McLaren (St. Louis on December 16), Jason MacDonald (New York Rangers on December 12), Pat Rissmiller (San Jose on November 13), Nathan Robinson (Detroit on November 28), Michael Ryder (Montreal on October 9), Dany Sabourin (Calgary on October 29), Rob Skrlac (New Jersey on December 13), Rastislav Stana (Washington on November 14), Mike Stuart (St. Louis on October 24), Darcy Verot (Washington on January 1), and Jeremy Yablonski (St. Louis on December 30). Travis Brigley, who played for Macon of the ECHL in 2001-02, played for Colorado on October 26.
