Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â The Alaska Aces have traded defenseman Valdemar Pelikovsky to the Bakersfield Condors in exchange for forward Denis Ladouceur.
With the recent AHL call-ups of Mike Scott and Charles Linglet, along with recent injuries to Mark Smith (broken thumb, out for at least a month) and Joe Talbot (questionable for this weekend), Alaska head coach Davis Payne knew he had to be in the market for a forward immediately.
"Denis always has impressed me whenever we've played Bakersfield, and I think he'll be able to step in here and give us some scoring punch at a time when we desperately need it," said Payne. "That being said, Valdy was a versatile player for us and I hate to lose him."
Ladouceur, who will turn 26 in two weeks, has scored 10 goals and assisted on nine others this year with a +3 rating in 38 games this year for Bakersfield, a club that currently sits nine games under the .500 mark. He played four years at Cornell University (three with new teammate Shane Palahicky), finishing with 35 goals and 45 assists in 119 games for the Big Red. The Prince George, BC native split his rookie season last year with the Long Beach Ice Dogs and the Condors, scoring nine goals with 11 assists in 47 games. Ladouceur should arrive in Anchorage late Thursday night and will be in the lineup for this weekend's series against the Las Vegas Wranglers, wearing jersey #19. Alaska could sign at least one or two more free agents for additional depth this weekend.
Pelikovsky departs the Aces after scoring two goals and six assists to go along with a +7 rating and 40 penalty minutes in 35 games this season. He managed nine points (one goal, eight assists) in 41 games for the Aces last year, his first in the pro ranks.
The series opener between Alaska and Las Vegas, who improved to 27-13-5 with a 4-1 win at Long Beach last night, takes place Friday at 7:00 p.m. and continues Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. The Aces have not played in 13 days since completing a two-game sweep of Idaho that pushed their record to 24-14-3 overall. Saturday's game against the Wranglers will be preceded by the fourth annual Guns âN Hoses charity tilt at 4:00 p.m., pitting the Anchorage Fire Department and the Anchorage Police Department (Fire Dept. leads the series 2-1). This year's game benefits the American Diabetes Association.
This weekend's games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
