Ice Dogs Defeat Gladiators, 2-1

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs (38-18-8) won their third in a row Wednesday night, regaining second place in the West Division with a 2-1 victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators (33-22-8). It was the first ever meeting between the two teams who are both in the thick of the playoff race.

Gwinnett got the scoring started just 2:47 into the game, when Kevin Doell knocked it in with assists from Mike Vigilante and Pat Dwyer. However, Long Beach would tie it up at 6:08 when newcomer Marty Clapton got his first goal as an Ice Dog, getting assists from Gary Zinck and Christian Larrivee. In the second period, Cory Urquhart scored the eventual game winner with helpers from Michael Lambert and Marco Rosa.

Long Beach goaltender, Sebastien Centomo, made 26 saves to improve his record with the Ice Dogs to 3-0-0. Adam Berkhoel took the loss for Gwinnett, which currently holds the 6th overall playoff spot in the American Conference. The Ice Dogs finished 0-4 on the power play while the Gladiators were 0-2.

The Ice Dogs travel down the road to San Diego on Friday night to take on the Gulls before returning Saturday night to play the Gulls again in the second game of a home-and-home series.. For more information, call (562) ICE-DOGS or visit www.icedogs.com.
